With an aim to develop communications skills of students and strengthen their ability to navigate specific challenges they may face in seeking and developing their careers, a lecture was organized on ‘Effective Communication as an Essential Life Skill’ in B.C.M.Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana. It was a great pleasure to have Ambassador Deepak Vohra , Special Adviser to the Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau, the Prime Minister of Lesotho and the Chairmen of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils, Kargil and Le , Indian diplomat, serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs as resource person for an expert talk. Seminar was attended by class 11 and 12 students who enjoyed the way he was making them understand the components of effective communication giving live examples.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Paramjit Kaur, School Principal said, “Effective Communication is a Pathway to Success in life. Getting your message across in a clear and coherent way is a critical skill in both professional and personal life”. Ambassador Deepak Vohra mentioned about the 3 overlapping components of communication i.e. Message, Method and Medium and conveyed that all must use them effectively in their day to day life. He spoke at length on Trust that is the bedrock of any relationship and provided useful insights and pointers on communication to make it easier and more consistent. He focused upon the importance of saying ‘Thank You’ and ‘Sorry’ and asked all the students to use them lavishly and frequently. Students were asked to adopt discipline in life and be liberal in accepting and paying compliments and sparing criticism.
From this Lecture, the students’ main takeaways included ways to build positive impressions through appropriate image management, knowledge and skills on how to convey their ideas and deliver an effective public speech.Capt. V.K. Sayal the School Manager proposed the vote of thanks.
