A day after a Mullanpur woman claimed that her braid was chopped off by an intruder when she was alone at home, three more such incidents were reported in the city on Sunday.
In the first case, Meherban police booked an unidentified miscreant for chopping off hair of 42-year-old Jaspreet Kaur of Captain Colony.
In her police complaint, Jaspreet said around 9.30pm on Saturday she was alone at her grocery shop, which she runs from her house, when she suddenly experienced numbness in legs. “I soon fell unconscious. Later, a customer saw me and sprinkled cold water on me. When I regained consciousness, I found that someone had chopped off my braid and left it in the shop,” she added.
Jaspreet’s husband, Manjeet Singh, has been working in Dubai for the past four years and her 23-year-old son works in a factory in Raipur, Madhya Pradesh
Meherban police have registered a case under sections 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) of the IPC. Meherban SHO Pavitter Singh said they have recovered hair lying in the shop and the woman said she didn’t see anyone. Police officials lamented that the area did not have many CCTV cameras.
Two women in Basti Jodhewal also claimed that their hair were cut off. One said a big cat did it and the other accused an unidentified person. However, the police said the two women didn’t want to lodge a complaint.
Police said a 25-year-old woman, Zainab of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar, Tibba Road, claimed that a huge cat chewed off her hair after she fell unconscious while feeding her three-year-old son on Saturday afternoon. Zainab’s son informed the family about the incident he claimed to have witnessed. Kapil Kumar, posted at Tibba Road police post, said the family didn’t want a case be registered.
In the third case, 57-year-old Resham Kumari of Ram Nagar in Basti Jodhewal said she and her son were sleeping in the same room on Friday and in the morning she found her hair chopped off. Basti Jodhewal police officials said Resham Kumari also didn’t want to lodge a complaint.
