Two unidentified assailants shot dead Manvinder Gandhi, former sarpanch and elder brother of murdered gangster Rupinder Gandhi, at his home in Rasoolpur village of Khanna on Sunday morning.
Manvinder, also known as Mindi, was rushed to Satguru Partap Singh Hospital in Ludhiana where he was declared dead. After the incident, Khanna police reached the spot and have initiated an investigation. According to the police, while escaping, the unidentified assailants reportedly robbed a car as well.
The motive behind the killing is suspected to be old rivalry. Manvinder Gandhi was producing a film on the life of his deceased brother titled ‘Rupinder Gandhi – the Robin Hood’.
He had also sponsored another movie — ‘Rupinder Gandhi – The gangster’ that was released in 2015.
Heavy police force has been deputed in Rasoolpur after followers huddled at the house. The police have registered a murder case against unidentified miscreants.
Rupinder Gandhi had cases of attempt to murder, assault, possessing illegal weapons registered against him. He was murdered in 2003 following a gang war.
Rupinder was the founder of Gandhi Group Student Union (GGSU) and was shot dead in 2003. Incidently, Mindi Gandhi had visited Panjab University a few days ago for Gandhi Group Student Union’s panel announcement, ahead of the upcoming PU student council polls.
