Two people died in two separate accidents in the city. In the first case, a one and a half year old boy died after being hit by a pick-up van outside his house in Dhillon Colony, Daba. The victim has been identified as Arpit Kumar. His father, Dharminder Kumar said the child was playing inside his house on Thursday night when he suddenly dashed outside and was hit by a speeding van crossing by. He was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Area residents nabbed the driver, Jatinder Singh, who belongs to the same locality and handed him over to the police. He has been booked for rash driving and causing death due to negligence.

In the second case, a man died on Noorwala road on Friday after being hit by a truck. The truck driver fled from the spot, leaving his vehicle behind. Area residents alleged that the police took half an hour to reach the spot after being informed. Had the police arrived on time, the accused could have been arrested, they said.
The deceased has been identified as Uma Shankar Sharma (58) of Bajwa Nagar. He was manager at a hosiery factory on Noorwala road. On Friday morning, he was on his way to his factory on a scooter. When he reached Noorwala road, he was hit by a truck, which dragged him at least 50 metres. Other commuters raised an alarm and stopped the truck.
SHO, police station, Jodhewal Jaswinder Singh said police reached the spot immediately after being informed. He said the police registered an FIR against the unidentified truck driver on charges of rash driving and causing death due to negligence. He said police have launched a manhunt to arrest the accused.
