LUDHIANA, June 11 (CNI): Aiming to fulfill the commitment of state government to provide clean environment under ‘Tandrust Punjab’ dream project of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh,  Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has decided to install 200 mobile toilets in the city’s slum areas at the cost of Rs 40 lakh.

The state’s largest civic body has aimed to declare all 95 wards of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation ‘open defecation free’ within a month for which it has floated the tenders for portable toilets.

According to information, 70 MC wards have already been declared Open Defecation Free and remaining 25 will be covered within a month.

The mobile toilets will be installed in the following areas include Maratha road, Registrar office Humbran road, Opposite Gulmohar Hotel near Bharat Nagar Chowk, Near Dugri canal, Railway Line Jassian road near railway bridge, Backside grain market, Grain Market Jhuggian, New Sabzi Mandi,  Near Budha Nallah, Local Sabzi Mandi, Corporation road near Empty Plot, Jassian road (No- 4 Jhuggian), Manna Singh Nagar (Vehra), Railway Line (Clock Tower), Dhandari Kalan near railway station (Delhi-Ambala road), Fauji Mohalla railway line, Jassian road near Tarsem Charitable Hospital, BRS Nagar Jhuggian Zone-D office, Jassian road backside Tarsem Charitable Hospital, Bhagat Singh Nagar near Sham Nagar railway crossing, Damoria bridge near railway line, Aakash Puri, Punjabi Bagh, Dana Mandi Gill road, Near Gill Canal Bridge, Khokha Market near Jhuggian Opposite Gaushalla plot, Jiwan Nagar road right side Jhuggian, Tajpur road near Jhuggian and others.

In these locations, a set of five or more portable toilets (gents & ladies) will be placed there.

Moreover, 50 toilet sets will also be built in the city under Smart City project.

Member of Parliament (MP) Ravneet Singh Bittu said that Tandrust Punjab will help to improve the state’s air, water quality, and safe food by ensuring healthy and congenial environment to the citizens of Punjab.

He stated that the mission will make the Punjab healthiest state in the country in which 12 government departments are working collectively round the clock to achieve its goals by running mass awareness drives among the people in the state.

MP solicited fulsome support and maximum participation of the people in the program to make the campaign huge success.

It is pertinent to mention here that the civic body is already rehabilitating the slum dwellers by shifting them to the flats. The flats are being constructed in Dhandari, Mundian and Giaspura localities of the city.
