In what came as a massive blow to Team India, Shikhar Dhawan on Wednesday was ruled out of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 in England and Wales. Dhawan will miss the remainder of the quadrennial tournament owing to a left thumb fracture that he suffered during the match against Australia. Former Indian cricketer turned politician, Gautam Gambhir took to Twitter to send a heartfelt message to Dhawan while urging the fans not put extra pressure on youngster Rishabh Pant, who replaced the 33-year-old in India’s 15-member squad.

Gambhir, who is a member of Parliament from East Delhi Constituency for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), wrote that he was disappointed to know Dhawan will no longer play in ICC’s marquee event but added that it was not the end of the world. Dhawan, who played his last match against Australia, scored a cracking 117 runs against the defending champions but was deemed unfit for the rest of the matches after being hit by a brutal Pat Cummins bouncer.

“Disappointed to know that @SDhawan25 will no longer take part in @cricketworldcup, he looked so much a part. My thoughts are with u brotherman but don’t worry not the end of the world. And best wishes to @RishabPant777. I’d urge that we don’t put any undue pressure on Rishabh,” wrote Gambhir.

Pant, who has replaced Dhawan in the squad, reached England before India’s clash against Pakistan. The youngster has already participated in training sessions and will be raring to prove his mettle in the showpiece event.
