ADC (D) LAUNCHES BOOKLET ON COMPLETION OF 50 YEARS OF SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT

The Soil and Water Conservation Department has completed 50 years successfully and during this time, they carried out several developmental works. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mrs Amrit Singh launched a booklet at her office, here today.

On this occasion, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer Mr Jagdish Singh Gill informed that the Soil and Water Conservation Department was carved out of the Agriculture Department on December 15, 1969. He stated that the main aim of this department is to save soil and water conservation with the help of various schemes of government.

He informed that in last 50 years, the department has played important role in bench terracing, land reclamation, land levelling, water harvesting structures, mechanical works, soil surveys, fountains, drip irrigation, underground laying of water pipes etc. He also gave an overview of ongoing government schemes of the department.

Mr Gill stated that 50% or Rs 22,000 per hectare subsidy is given for laying underground pipes, whereas 80-90% subsidy is given for fountain and drip irrigation. Besides, the department also supplies treated water from STPs and clean water from villages to farmers with the help of underground pipes.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Baldev Singh, Horticulture Officer Mr Harmel Singh, Technical Expert Mr Baldev Singh, APO (M) Mr Avtar Singh, DDPO Mr Piyush Chander, CEO (Fish Farmers Development Agency) Mr Sukhwinder Singh Walia, Deputy Divisional Soil Conservation Officer Mrs Nidhi Batta, Soil Conservation Officer Mrs Jasreetu Kaur, besides several others.
