An earthquake with magnitude 3.6 occurred in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh at around 9 AM on Saturday. No loss of life or damage to property has been reported so far. This was the third earthquake in Himachal’s Chamba in last three months. Earlier on February 4, an earthquake with the same magnitude (3.5) was felt in Chamba at 12:35 pm. On march 29, the state was hit by another earthquake that shook the hilly state in same Chamba region.

According to the reports of leading daily the Financial Express, the scientists have issued a warning to the hilly state saying the Himalayan region is prone to more earthquakes and it may get hit by a major earthquake with magnitude greater than 7.9 that had shook Nepal two years back.

Meanwhile, a new software tool to minimise the risk of manmade earthquakes has been developed by a team of international researchers.
