LUDHIANA, January 25 (000) – The district administration celebrated the National Voters Day in Government College for Girls on Thursday. The Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer, Mr. Pradeep Kumar Agrawal was the chief guest of the function. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development)-cum-Additional District Electoral Officer Mrs. Surabhi Malik was also present on this occasion. Motivating the youths to exercise their franchise in the polls, The District Electoral Officer, Mr. Agrawal motivated them to come out in a large number during the elections. He told them about the importance of the day being celebrated from January 25, 2011, and to protect the democracy, voting is one of the greatest tools given by our constitution. He said that casting the vote is our duty and everyone should perform the duty sincerely as it would ensure the protection of the rights. Appreciating the participation of the residents of the district during the previous Assembly elections, he informed the gathering that due to their support, earlier Deputy Commissioner and Police Commissioner have been awarded by President of India. It is pertinent to mention here that Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ravi Bhagat and Commissioner of Police Mr. Jatinder Singh Aulakh, were in charge of operations in the assembly polls in the state. At this present, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM-Khanna) Mr. Sandeep Singh was given the award of Best Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). The Best Nodal Officer award was handed over to Mrs. Sarita Bahl and Madam Beant Kaur of Government Senior Secondary School Chakar in Jagraon was adjudged as Best BLO.
Meanwhile, Declamation and Poster Making Competitions were also organized and winning students were also awarded by Chief Guest and Mrs. Surabhi Malik. The students of Nehru Yuva Kendra also performed a skit to motivate the youths for exercising their franchise in the elections. The Chief Guest read the oath of casting the vote to honest candidates.
