JUNE 26 LUDHIANA The Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, today entered into agreement with Saeco Strips Private Limited, Rampur Road, Doraha, District Ludhiana for commercialization of PAU Happy Seeder with Press Wheel Technology and Straw Cutter-cum-Mulcher and PAU Cutter-cum-Spreader. Besides, the University signed MoA with 13 farm manufacturers vis a vis Harmeet Agriculture Works, Nabha, Momi Engg Works, Sultanpur Lodhi, Matharu Engineering Works, Bhari Panechan, Nabhkiran Agro Industries, Amargarh, Kishan Agro Industries, Karamsar Rara Sahib, R.S.B. Agro Industries, Sunam, Ram Chand and Sons, Lubana Karm, Matharu Engineering Works, Ferozepur, Pardeep Agro Industries, Assarpur, Patiala, Gahir Agro Industries Limited, Sunam, Hind Agro Industries, Nabha, Rooprai Agro Industries, Nabha and New Gurdial Agro Industries Private Limited, Nabha for commercialization of PAU Super SMS Technology. The MoA was signed by the respective representatives of firms while Dr Navtej Singh Bains, Director Research, PAU, signed the pact on behalf of the University. Vice Chancellor, Dr B.S. Dhillon congratulated the proprietors for sharing responsibility of environment friendly paddy straw management. Dr. S.S. Chahal, Adjunct Professor, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell informed that PAU has signed 157 MoAs and has commercialized 39 technologies including hybrid lines of mustard, chilli, brinjal and varieties, bio-fertilizers, leaf colour chart, water testing kit, products, PAU Happy Seeder technology, Straw Cutter-cum-Mulcher and other technologies. . Jasvir Singh Gill, Assistant Agronomist, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering added that the PAU happy seeder with Press Wheel Technology is a recent machine that chops and lays paddy residues as complete mulch in inter-row area in pressed manner simultaneously along with sowing of wheat. With this technology there is significant weed suppression and better acceptability among farmers. Dr Manpreet Singh, of Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering informed that the “PAU Super SMS” attachment is becoming popular with a large number of farmers because of its use with combine harvesters for cutting, chopping and uniformly spreading loose straw while harvesting paddy. Dr. Ashok Kumar, Additional Director of Research (Farm Mechanization and Bio-energy) added that the machine will facilitate the operations of other in situ straw management machinery like “PAU Happy Seeder”, Mould Board Plough, etc., which will ultimately halt paddy straw burning and help farmers to enhance soil productivity with in-situ paddy straw management. Dr. Rohinish Khurana, Head, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, PAU added that PAU has developed a paddy straw chopper-cum-spreader for chopping the paddy straw left in the combine harvesting paddy field. It chops the straw into small pieces and spreads uniformly in the field in a single operation. It is a tractor mounted type machine and can be operated by 45 HP or above tractor. Machine can cover about one acre in 1.25 hours. The chopped straw can be mixed in to the soil by using tillage machinery like MB plough, Rotavator, etc., in dry or wet condition.
