Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, department of Psychology organised an extension lecture on “All About Counselling Skills and Careers in Psychology in India and Abroad”. The resource person, Ms. Nayanika Singh, Psychologist and Co-ordinator, Eurofit Sports Research Institute, Austria, Vienna, apprised the students on the basics of counselling skills needed to become a good counsellor. She emphasised the role of variables like physical setting, eye contact, social labelling etc and also talked about the various myths of counselling which can create bias in the counselling process. She introduced the students to various practical techniques like Blurring, Mirroring, Magnification and also upcoming therapies like Neuro-Linguistic Programming. The second session consisted of detailed outlay of various careers in Psychology in India and abroad. She further prepared the students to increase their employability potential by choosing the appropriate programmes offered by various universities all over the world. The Principal, Dr (Mrs.) Mukti Gill, appreciated the efforts of the department and encouraged the students to actively use the knowledge gained from their curriculum into daily life experiences.
