All India Hockey Tournament Nabha at PPS Hockey grounds

Nabha 25 Dec. (Rajesh Bjaj) In the quarter final matches played here today in G.S Bains Liberals All India Hockey Tournament Nabha at PPS Hockey grounds. West Central Railway Jabalpur, EME Jalandhar , CRPF Jalandhar and BSF Jalandhar won their respective matches. WC Railway defeated SAI Hostel Kurukshetra  2-1 , EME Jalandhar stroked out CISF New Delhi 4-3 , CRPF overwhelmed J&K Police 6-0 and  BSF Jalandhar edged out SGPC academy 1-0 and  marched into the SemiFinals.

Semi Final of the Tournament will be played tomorrow at 12 :15 Pm.
In the first Quarter Final encounter West Central Railway overcame stiff resistance from young SAI Hostel Kurukshetra lads to register a 2-1 win to barge into Semi Finals. Rail men dominated the first half and gained 1-0 lead in 19th minute when hard hitting fullback Hasibuddin converted a short corner with a full blooded shot which hit the board from mid defenders stick. SAI boys didn’t give in and equalized (1-1) in 34th minute when Sher Singh collected a pass from the right plank to sound the ball. Rail men got the all important goal in 37th minute when hardworking forward Nadeem Beg scored after side stepping a bunch of defenders. SAI boys made many mistakes in the rival circle and went down fighting 2-1.
The second match was hotly contested between EME & CISF with the former keeping more possession of the ball but against the run of play CISF took a 1-0 lead in the second minute of the game when Harish Sharma pounced on a stray ball in the circle and pushed it past goalkeeper Anil Kumar. EME went into attack and forced 5 short corners which however proved futile as goal keeper Veer Bahadar didn’t allow any room under the bar. Crossing over with a goal down EME maintained pressure on the CISF citadel after half time and got the equalized (1-1) in 48th minute from Biju Singh’s stick who collected a center from the left ring and deflected the ball into the net dodging full back PP Sangha. The game having ended in 1-1 draw was decided through penalty shootout in which EME was successful through Gurjinder , Avatar & J. Kujur while CISF could convert only twice through Neeraj Yadav and N Razak giving 4-3 win to EME Jalandhar.
Relying on accurate short passes and controlled stick work CRPF out played J&K Police to record a 6-0 win.Though police men also had their share of exhibiting clean Hockey but poor finishing inside the circle left them down. Scorers for CRPF were I.Toppo in 10th minute, Bikash Kujur in 11th min , Gurjeet in 31st min , Kuldeep Ekka in 48th and 61st min and M Barla in 56th min.
In the last match BSF Jalandhar scored a solitary goal win over SGPC Hockey Academy Amritsar. The all important goal was scored by Hatinder Singh in 45th min.
