hiv Sena on Thursday criticised and blamed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the unrest in the state stating she is someone who easily gets angry. Shiv Sena, in mouthpiece Saamna, said that the chief minister did not give permission for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah’s chopper to land in West Bengal which started the conflict between the BJP and Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC).
The editorial also criticised the attack on Amit Shah’s rally in Kolkaka. “Her [Mamata Banerjee] government was elected democratically. Whether she wins or loses will be decided democratically. She will not win by becoming a roadblock in the way of Modi-Shah,” read the editorial.
Taking upon Mamata Banrejee’s “not God” remark on Amit Shah, Shiv Sena said, “Amit Shah is not God, but Banerjee is also not a saint. Bengal has seen violence during the time of Marxist regime and now Mamata Banrejee is also doing the same.” On the day the supporters of the BJP and the TMC fought pitched battles on the streets of Kolkata during a roadshow by Amit Shah, Mamata Banerjee had asked if Amit Shah is a God that no one can protest against him.
On Tuesday, a college named after Iswarchandra Vidyasagar, a key figure in the Bengal renaissance, was ransacked and a bust of the 19th-century social reformer shattered allegedly by BJP workers during the clashes. Following this, the war of world between the two parties — TMC and the BJP — has intensified with a number of allegations and counter allegations.
The unrest in the state had also forced the Election Commission to cut short the campaign time in Bengal by a day. On the last day of campaign, West Bengal will witness a faceoff between Mamata Banerjee and Prime Minister Naredra Modi, who is scheduled to address two rallies in the state.
The final phase of Lok Sabha election 2019 will be held on May 19. The votes will be counted on May 23.
