As part of the Centenary Celebations of SCD Govt. College, Ludhiana, the Annual Athletic Meet (6th & 7th March, 2019) the opening ceremony was held on 6th March 2019. The Chief Guest Dr. Satish Sharma, Director Colleges, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi declared the Meet open and encouraged the participants and spectators to include sports and games in their life for their overall development. Dr. Mukti Gill, principal Khalsa College for Women and Dr. Savita Sharma, principal Government College for Girls also graced the function and encouraged the students. The function began with the unveiling of the plaque in the sports pavilion building dedicated to Prof. Baljit Singh Grewal whose prophetic words were adopted as an eastern expression of Olympic philosophy at Mexico in 1968 when he said ” To distil human strength into speed and skill and to elevate mankind’s mind above the weaknesses of reward and recognition is the sole purpose of sports.” This tribute was paid in the presence of Dr. Mukti Gill, the daughter of Prof. Baljit Singh Grewal.
On this occasion, the principal Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu welcomed the Chief Guest Dr. Satish Sharma and other distinguished guests of honour. He introduced Dr. Satish Sharma to the assembled guests and informed them that he has been honoured with Punjab Ratan Award for his contribution in the field of education.
On this bright sunny morning the sports arena presented a colourful and festive look with the cheerfully decked pavilion, spruced up grounds, colourful balloons that were released in the sky, smart march past by the students to the beats of drums of Punjab Police. These contingents were led by the sports achievers of the college – Tushar (Handball); Arshdeep Singh ( Basket Ball); Sahil ( Basket Ball); Mitaksh Gandhi (Badminton); Sanjana (Taekwando); Gurbaaz Singh( Basket Ball); Vishavdeep Singh (Basket Ball); Vinay (Taekwando); Lakshay Singhal (Badminton); Prince(Volley Ball); Aryan (Badminton); Mandeep Singh(Handball); Mahavir Singh(Handball). Special mention needs to be made of our players Nehal Wadhera who has been recently selected as captain of Under 19 Indian team and another player Gurnoor Singh who is an International level player and on this day administered the Oath to the participants. The NCC & NSS students also participated in march past. There after the students participated in 100 mtrs, 800mtrs, 5000mts races; Javelin throw, discus throw, shotput, long jump and high jump etc on day 1.
The teachers of the dept – Prof. Balbir Kumar, Prof. Harvinder Kaur, Prof Prabhjot Kaur, Prof Kulwant Singh & Prof. Amarpreet Kaur ensured the successful conduct of the games. Prof. Harblas, Prof. Iradeep, Prof. Geetanjali took charge of announcements throughout the day. The results are as follows:-
