The Bank of England staffers have gone on a strike over a dispute with the management regarding pay. The staff including administrative, technical, and security, have been on strike, first in 50 years. Holding placards saying “The Bank of England employees deserve fair pay,” the employees have been protesting outside bank premises.

The union announced the strike after employees received pay hikes less than the inflation in the country. The union also blames governor Mark Carney for the failure of talks. Bank workers are protesting outside the headquarters in London wearing Mark Carney masks.

The union claims that one-third of the total employees will get no pay this year.

Unite official Peter Kavanagh told The Telegraph: “The Governor of the Bank of England must take responsibility for the fact that his dedicated workforce is having to make their concerns heard from a picket line.

“The result of the Bank’s failure to negotiate with staff is that the Bank of England now faces its first strike action in over 50 years.

“Unite is calling on the Bank of England to come back to the negotiating table to discuss a fair pay deal for the employees. Unite is prepared to talk and to reach a fair settlement,” he continued.
