Drug peddler having links with Pakistan smugglers nabbed in Ludhiana

The Special task Force (STF) has nabbed another drug peddler having direct links with Pakistan based drug smugglers, on Monday evening. The police have also recovered 1kg heroin from him possession that he had buried in a one room plot in Village Sangowal near Gill bridge of Sidhwan canal.

The arrested accused has been identified as Jaswant Kumar (57) of Amritsar, who has been arrested by police from a checkpoint established near Sherpur chowk, Ludhiana. According to police the 1 kg heroin costs Rs 5 crore in international market.

Significantly, the arrested accused is the main link of the chain of drug peddlers. Earlier on July 11 the STF had arrested a drug peddler of Tarantaran Gurnam Singh and his two accomplices Daljit Singh and Swaran Singh with 4 kg heroin from a village Kakke Dhaula of Ludhiana. Later on July 19 the STF had also arrested to NRIs Palwinderjeet Singh Sidhu (43) and Ravinder Singh (41) of Gorayan, Jalandhar with 5 Kg heroin.

In-charge STF, Harbans Singh said, “Recently arrested accused Jaswant had recently got 11 kg heroin from a Pakistani smuggler out of which 4 kg delivered to Gurnam and 5 kg to NRI smugglers. Jaswant has direct links with Pakistani smugglers to whom he would contact through whatsapp call.”

Further official told that Jaswant has been into drug peddling from over 20 years. In 1996 he was held by Amritsar police with 44kg heroin and later with 85 kg heroin. He was also sentenced 16 years of imprisonment in Amritsar. After completing his sentence he came out of jail three years back and restarted drug peddling.

Further he also told that, Jaswant would smuggle contrabands in Delhi and Haryana too.

“STF has almost broken this chain of drug peddlers by arrested Jaswant, Gurnam and both NRIs. One drug peddler Saheb Singh is absconding who would be in police net soon”added Harbans Singh.
