LUDHIANA, March 14 (CNI):  Punjab Government is set to launch Drug Abuse Prevention Officers (DAPO) program on March 23, the death anniversary of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in SBS Nagar.
 
Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh would formally start the program by administering the oath to all the DAPO volunteers during the state level function at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. 
 
This was stated by IG Special Task Force (STF) Punjab Police Mr Parmod Ban, who held a meeting with Police Commissioner Mr RN Dhoke, Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal, Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) Khanna, Jagraon and other senior officials on Wednesday evening at Police Lines. 
 
He said that main motive of DAPO program is to build Nasha Mukti Mohallas (NMMs) and the process of registering volunteers has already started in various districts of Punjab. 
 
He said that teams would be formed to implement the program at the grassroots level and if anyone wants to contribute towards the eradication of drugs in Punjab by becoming DAPO volunteer, they can register themselves atwww.ppsaanjh.in or in Sanjh Kendra. 
 
He said that DAPO volunteers will be trained and would be issued identity cards. Each DAPO will be responsible for creating awareness, facilitate de-addiction of victims identify and protect vulnerable people, promote sports or positive activity in the locality and coordinate with the administration, he added. 
 
Police Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner assured to make the program a success in their jurisdiction. 
DIG Mr Gursharan Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mrs Neeru Katyal Gupta, Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) Mr Ashwani Kapur, Gagan Ajit Singh and others were present.
