The 2019 year began on a sour note for two of the talented Indian cricketers, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya. The Koffee with Karan episode involving the duo was aired on January 6 and their misogynist comments on the show didn’t go down well with the many. They were in Australia at that point in time and the outrage led to BCCI suspending them with immediate effect pending an inquiry. However, with the Supreme Court not prioritising the case, the board decided to let them play later.

Later the court appointed D.K. Jain as the BCCI Ombudsman and many were waiting for the verdict to come out in the matter even as the two cricketers played for India and are currently in the Indian Premier League. Meanwhile, the Ombudsman has fined both the cricketers for their involvement in the controversy and has directed Pandya and Rahul to pay Rs 1 lakh each to widows of 10 constables in paramilitary forces who lost their lives on duty.

Also, they have been told to deposit Rs 10 lakh for the Cricket Association of Blind for their misconduct on the talk show according to Cricket Next. Overall, the cricketers have been fined Rs 20 lakh each for their comments and the matter officially has ended now.

What if they fail?

The BCCI Ombudsman has also directed the BCCI to follow up on the same and deduct the said amount from their respective match fees in case Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul fail to follow the orders within the next four weeks from the date of the receipt of the order.

With the matter officially ending now, both the cricketers can now concentrate on the upcoming World Cup for which they have been picked in India’s squad. While Hardik is the all-rounder and the vital cog of the team, Rahul will be travelling to England as the back-up opener.
