- MP EXHORTS OFFICIALS TO CREATE AWARENESS OF EACH SCHEME
- MLAs CAN CHECK QUALITY OF MID-DAY MEAL-DEPUTY COMMISSIONER
LUDHIANA, April 18 (000): Member of Parliament (MP) Ravneet Singh Bittu on Wednesday ordered the officials to take Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in confidence while implementing the government’s schemes in the district.
MP was chairing a meeting of District Development Coordinating and Monitoring Committee that lasted for around three hours in Bachat Bhawan.
Bittu told that being elected representatives of the vast area (assembly segment), they have a mass reach and officials can take their help during the starting any program or scheme in the district so that each eligible beneficiary can be covered.
MP, who is also chairman of the committee, asked the officers to organize awareness camps about the schemes so that people at grassroots can be enrolled under the various schemes run by central and state governments. He also asked the officers to execute the work in a time-bound manner.
The MP said that all the departments especially education, agriculture, social welfare, health, Municipal Corporation, water supply and sanitation, rural development and others need to play an active role to facilitate the people who visit their offices daily.
While providing the details, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pradeep Kumar Agrawal told that 77 primary schools have been converted into the English medium institutions and claimed more schools would be added in this category in the coming days. He asked the officials of education department to also share the same information of schools with MLAs.
On being complained by one-member about the number of students staying in the residential hostel, DC told SDM East to visit the hostel and give a detailed report.
Agrawal recommended the education department to organize sports championship at the district level to promote sports among the students and to inculcate sports spirit amongst them.
In the meeting, MP underscored the need for sensitizing parents, schools children and others about POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses) Act 2012 after which DC told the education department to ask the school for holding awareness seminars and parent meets exclusively on POCSO Act so that they were well versed with the provisions of the Act and the rights in the coming weeks.
DC also told MLAs that they can also visit the government schools and can give their feedback on the quality of the food being served to the students as Mid-Day Meal.
Former Minister Malkeet Singh Dakha, MLAs Surinder Dabar, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Sanjay Talwar, Kuldeep Singh Vaid, Sarbjeet Kaur Manuke, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Shena Aggarwal, PPCC Spokesperson Raman Subramaniam and other officials were present during the meeting.
Before the start of the meeting, DC welcomed MP and Mayor by presenting bouquets to them.
