Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the lead roles, is having a remarkable run at the box office. Showing excellent growth on Sunday, the romantic drama added Rs 27.91 crore more to its kitty. Its total collection, after a three-day run in cinemas, stands at Rs 70.83 crore. The jump from Saturday, when the film earned Rs 22.71 crore, is nearly 23 per cent.

While Kabir Singh has surpassed the opening-weekend business of Total Dhamaal (Rs 62.40 crore) to bag the biggest non-holiday opening weekend of 2019, it has emerged the highest solo grosser ever of Shahid’s career in three days flat, which is a jaw-dropping feat.

Movie critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh, in a Monday tweet, summed up the business of the film. His post read, “#KabirSingh is firing on all cylinders at the BO… Metros, mass belt, Tier-2, Tier-3 cities – #KabirSingh wave grips the nation… Emerges Shahid Kapoor’s highest grosser in 3 days [after #Padmaavat]… Fri 20.21 cr, Sat 22.71 cr, Sun 27.91 cr. Total: ₹ 70.83 cr. India biz.”

Kabir Singh is an official remake of the 2017 Telugu hit Arjun Reddy, that starred Vijay Devarakonda and Shalini Pandey as the lead pair. The film is directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who also helmed the original. The story revolves around an alcoholic surgeon who chooses the path of self-destruction after his lover is forcibly married to someone else. Upon its release on June 21, Kabir Singh met with mixed critical response. While some critics found the film disturbingly misogynistic, some were in awe of Shahid’s portrayal of an obsessive lover. The word of mouth for the film was on the same lines.
