As part of its Institutional social responsibility, the Department of Computer Science of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana organized ‘E-Vidya: A Computer Literacy Program’ for the school children. The two weeks intensive program, which commenced on 1st June, 2017 concluded today. Fifty students with modest background from different schools were enrolled for the training which was provided free of cost. With an objective to spread computer literacy, the program aimed at empowering these children by making them learn how to operate a computer and learn the basic computer skills and tools.

A unique aspect of the programme was that the training was imparted to the young girls and boys by the post graduate students of the department under the guidance of the faculty of Department of Computer Science. The idea behind this was to make the students embrace the values of serving the society in the early years of their life and foster their identities as engaged citizens.

The school students enthusiastically participated in the training. Training was imparted in MS Word and MS PowerPoint. They were also taught about the other basic operations to operate a computer. Certificates were distributed to the participants by the Principal, Dr (Mrs) Mukti Gill. The Principal and the College Managing Committee appreciated the social initiative undertaken by the Department of Computer Science. She called upon the students and faculty of the college to contribute towards realizing the college goal of society betterment and nation building.
