Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke out on Thursday against violence unleashed by bovine protector vigilantes, saying killing in the name of cow worship was not acceptable.
This is the second time in two years that the prime minister has condemned cow protectors, who have gained in strength in recent years and have attacked several people on charges of cow smuggling or slaughter.
“Killing people in the name of Gau Bhakti is not acceptable. This is not something Mahatma Gandhi would approve,” Modi said at Gujarat’s Sabarmati Ashram.
“As a society, there is no place for violence…we are a land of non violence.”
