LAWS FOR THE MAINTENANCE AND WELFARE OF SENIOR CITIZEN ARE BEING MADE MORE STRICT-ADC PUNJAB GOVERNMENT IS PREPARING NEW POLICY FOR SENIOR CITIZEN

LUDHIANA, May 28 (CNI): Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shena Aggarwal said that district administration is committed to protect the rights of senior citizen and ensure the speedy addressal of their complaints under Maintenance and Welfare of Parents And Senior Citizen Act 2007.

Aggarwal was speaking after holding a meeting with the officials on Monday at the office of deputy commissioner.

She said that the union government has drafted the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizen Draft Bill, 2018 and invited suggestions or comments from the people and other stakeholders on its website socialjustice.nic.in by June 30.

She added that similarly, Punjab Government is also preparing new policy to protect the senior citizen and draft is available on the website Punjab.gov.in where the people can give their suggestions till June 7. She said that later, the policy will be implemented throughout the state.

ADC also said that it is the responsibility of the district-level committee to deliver each service in time bound manner including the issuance of pensions so that economic and social security can be ensured to them.

Further, she stated the senior citizens who are being harassed by their family members and children over property and their rights, can contact district level committee and their complaint would be decided on time.

The ADC disclosed that Police department has also deputed IG rank officer at the state level, DIG rant officer at the range and SP (D) at district levels as nodal officers to facilitate the senior citizens for speedy redressal of their issues. The police department also keeps separate records of such complaints, she added.

On the occasion, SDM East Amarjeet Singh Bains, MC joint commissioner Anita Darshi, District Social and Security Officer Inderpreet Kaur, ACP Surinder Mohan, Satpal Karkara, the state president of Senior Citizen Association and others were present.
