Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has said the BJP will face a major setback in politically-crucial Uttar Pradesh, where her party’s candidates will give a strong fight to the ruling party.
Priyanka Gandhi is campaigning in central Uttar Pradesh, including her brother and Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi seat and mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s constituency of Rae Bareli, as the state heads for the fifth phase of Lok Sabha election on May 6.
“The BJP will suffer a major setback in UP and will lose badly. In those seats where Congress is strong and our candidates are giving a tough fight, Congress will win,” Priyanka Gandhi said on Wednesday, according to news agency ANI.
“Jahan hamare ummedwar thode halke hain, wahan humne aise ummedwar diye hain jo BJP ka vote kaate (Places where our candidates are weak, we have fielded nominees who will cut into the BJP’s vote),” she said.
In the fifth phase, 14 out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats, including Lucknow, Rae Bareli and Amethi, will vote on May 6.
