SAYS PROCESS OF GETTING REGISTERED AS VOTER VERY EASY

  • IN DISTRICT LUDHIANA, MORE THAN 46,000 NEW VOTERS HAVE BEEN REGISTERED AFTER JANUARY 31, 2019

Ludhiana, April 11:

District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal has appealed to all the eligible persons to get themselves registered as voters at the earliest.

He informed that Punjab will head to the Lok Sabha polls in less than one and half month, i.e. on May 19. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has gone full throttle to sensitise and register maximum eligible people as voters and the drive has been a resounding success with a large number of the residents getting registered. But in case of anybody being left out then they should register as voters before the last date as there is still some time left.

He said that as per Section 62 of the Representation of People Act, 1951 only a person who is enrolled as a voter in the Electoral roll is entitled to vote in that constituency. While elections to the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab will see a single-phase poll on May 19, 2019, the last day for candidates to file nominations is April 29.
He further said that the Election Commission requires those who want to vote to register at least 10 days before the last date for filing nominations, making the deadline for registrations in Punjab as April 19. He informed that till January 31, 2019, a total of 25,16,885 voters have been registered in district Ludhiana and since then, 46,139 voters have been registered and this process is going on since then.

He further said that the process of registering has been simplified. People should verify their details on the voter helpline app or log on to www.nvsp.in. In case they are not enrolled as voters they can fill Form 6 online via the mobile app or website or at the facilitation centre in the DC, SDM and Tehsildar’s office. A citizen can also contact toll-free number 1950 for any query or assistance.

He urged all those who are yet to register to do so before 19th April in order to be able to vote in this Lok Sabha Election.
