Ludhiana rural police recovers 6kg opium; arrests drug peddler

LUDHIANA: Ludhiana (Rural) Police arrested a drug peddler after recovering six kilograms of opium from his possession at Kaonke road Akhara of Jagraon on Friday. It added that after that the accused was arrested immediately and his car was seized.“During initial investigation, of the case, it was found that many cases have already been registered against the accused at Haryana and Punjab. In 2013, Sudhar police station had registered case against the accused under NDPS act for recovery of 152 kilograms of poppy husk whereas in 2014, Sunam City Police station had booked him under NDPS act for recovery of 55 kilograms of Poppy Husk and is proclaimed offender in that case”, said SSP. He added that the police party saw a Hyundai Verna car and signaled the driver to stop.Police said that the search of the car was carried out in presence of Amandeep Singh DSP Investigation and six kilograms of opium was recovered from under the driver seat of the vehicle. He added that the accused has a case against him under NDPS act at Sadar Police Station Kapurthala for recovery of 2 KG 70grams Opium whereas Dhuri police station had booked the accused under NDPS act after forty five kilograms of poppy husk was recovered from him.Police said that the accused will be produced before the Local court to secure his police remand and could make more disclosures about the drug trade.

LUDHIANA: Ludhiana (Rural) Police arrested a drug peddler after recovering six kilograms of opium from his possession at Kaonke road Akhara of Jagraon on Friday.

The accused was identified as 35 year old Raj Kumar Raju of Rattia in District Fatehiabad presently at Mohalla Prem Nagar Sarsa in Haryana.Giving details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ludhiana (Rural) Surjeet Singh said that as part of special campaign against drug peddlers and anti social elements and also to break the nexus of drug suppliers, a team of Crime Investigating Agency (CIA) Staff Jagraon was present at the Bus stand Kaonke Kalan.

He added that an informer gave an information to the team that Raj Kumar is smuggling Opium since long time and has supplied the same in huge quantity in Punjab and if nabbed, huge quantity of opium may be recovered from him.Senior police officer said that on this information, a case under sections of NDPS act was registered at Sadar Jagraon police station against the accused after which the police party set up a check post at Narrow Bridge Kaonke road in Akhara.

He added that the police party saw a Hyundai Verna car and signaled the driver to stop.Police said that the search of the car was carried out in presence of Amandeep Singh DSP Investigation and six kilograms of opium was recovered from under the driver seat of the vehicle.
