LUDHIANA, April 11 (CNI): The district administration would hold a number of functions under Gram Swaraj Abhiyan which is set to start on April 14 to May 5.

The administration has identified 110 villages of the district under the special outreach program of the central government to reach out the rural people and spread the awareness of the social schemes.

Chairing an important meeting to finalize the arrangements for starting the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) Shena Aggarwal told that awareness camps, seminars and meetings would be held in 110 villages of the district during under Gram Swaraj Abhiyan for 22-days continually.

ADC said that people would be made aware about seven schemes including Ujala Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana-Saubhagya, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Jiwan Jyoti Bima Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojna and Mission Indradhanush. She said that eligible villagers would be enrolled by the teams at the spot.

Aggarwal disclosed that the events would start on the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. BR Ambedkar on April 14 which would be celebrated as Social Justice Day.

Similarly, she informed that different programs, Swachh Bharat Diwas on April 18, Ujjawala Panchayat Diwas on April 20, and Panchayati Raj Diwas on April 24 would be celebrated in the district.

Similarly, Gram Shakti Abhiyan, Ayushman Bharat Diwas, Farmers Welfare Day and Aajeevika Diwas would be celebrated on April 28, 30 and May 2 and 5 respectively, she added.

She said that the objective of the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan is to promote social harmony among the villagers, connect to poor rural households, to gain feedback on government’s programs, focus on doubling farmers’ income, improving livelihood opportunities, and strengthening Panchayati Raj institutions.

She exhorted all the heads of various departments to appoint nodal officers to ensure better coordination and cooperation to make events successful. ADC said that progress of the functions would be reviewed on a routine basis.
