A man died on the spot after he was administered with a pain-relief injection by a medical store owner at Ambattur, Chennai on Monday. The police have arrested the store owner on Tuesday and he has been sent to jail.
The victim was identified as 42-year-old Kumar, a resident of Madhang Kuppam near Ambattur. He had been struggling with severe shoulder pain from the last two weeks and was also undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the area. Meanwhile, on Monday at around 8:30 PM, Kumar could no longer bear the severe pains so he went to Baskaran’s Sri Sakthi Medicals located at the Sarapattu-Ambattur Road.
According to a report, Kumar showed him the hospital’s reports and prescription and asked for medicine. Along with the pharmacy store, a small nursing home is also attached which Baskaran use for administering intravenous fluids such as saline. After an hour, Baskaran administered him with an injection but he immediately fainted. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead. However, the body was sent for a post-mortem examination to the Government Stanley Medical Hospital.
The city police have registered a case under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code after receiving a complaint from the deceased’s wife, Meena. Eventually, Baskaran was arrested on Tuesday and sent to jail. Police inspector of Ambattur station, Porkodi said that the pharmacy store owner administered a pain-relief injection to Kumar.
Meanwhile, the residents in the nearby area showed utter trust in Bhaskaran and his treatment given to patients. Reportedly, people gathered outside his store and claimed that Bhaskaran never administers an injection to newcomers and only gave to regular patients who visited his store.
Another resident, who runs a biryani shop near the Bhaskaran’s store added that he has always been satisfied with Bhaskaran’s treatment. Sharing his experience, he added that a few days ago he was suffering from cold and fever and when Bhaskaran gave him the injection, he was absolutely fine after it.
