LUDHIANA, March 28 (CNI): All meat shops in the district will have to remain closed on March 29, on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti.
Exercising the powers vested under Section 144, Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, District Magistrate Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said that all meat, abattoir, egg shops would remain closed in Jagraon, Samrala, Khanna, Payal, Raikot and Mullanpur and hotels, Dhabas and clubs would also not serve non-vegetarian items on March 29 as the Jain festival is being celebrated as a day of non-violence.
DM ordered that killing animals on this day can hurt religious sentiments of a particular community and unscrupulous elements can take advantage of this.
