Ludhiana, September 19:

The Punjab government is running a government gaushala at village Burj Powat in Tehsil Samrala of the district. In a bid to connect more people with this gaushala so that the cows can be taken care of properly, now people can adopt cows in this gaushala by paying either monthly or annually. Besides this, donors can also come forward for providing basic infrastructure at the Gaushala.

Today, one such donor named Mr Santokh Singh Saini, who is a retired Junior Engineer (JE), PSPCL, donated 12 ceiling fans for the Gaushala.

While providing information, Mr Ashok Sharma, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry Department, stated that at present, there are around 300 cows in the government gaushala that do not give milk. He said that green fodder, husk, medicines and feed is required so that proper of these cows can be ensured. This gaushala is being run by the District Animal Welfare Society with the active support of Dhyan Foundation. She said that the gaushala cannot function properly without the active support of people and that is why, Cow Adoption programme has been started now.

Mr Sharma said that the people can now donate, as per their will, for the charges incurred on green fodder, husk, medicines and feed of cows. He said that people can adopt a cow by either donating green fodder, husk, medicines and feed or paying Rs 1100 per cow per month or can pay Rs 11,000 annually and they would also be given a receipt for the same. He said that if any person feels that the amount is too much, then people can collectively adopt a cow and donate green fodder, husk, medicines and feed as per their will.

He said that the donors can also celebrate their birthdays, wedding anniversary, mundan of their children etc in a clean environment by performing Sewa of cow. Mr Ashok Sharma said that the donors can also perform cow pujan.
