Petrol Diesel Price Rate Today: A litre of petrol now costs Rs 72.31 in Kolkata as compared with Rs 72.24 a litre on Sunday. Diesel is retailing at Rs 65.82, 6 paise more than Sunday’s price
Petrol and diesel prices were increased on Monday (June 24) for the second consecutive day across four metro cities in the country. After the daily revision in retail fuel prices, petrol prices were increased by 7-8 paise a litre while diesel became costlier by 6-7 paise.
State-run oil marketing companies raised increased the retail price of petrol in Delhi by 7 paise to Rs 70.05 per litre as against Rs 69.98 on Sunday. Diesel prices in the national capital went up by 6 paise to Rs 63.90 as compared with Rs 63.84 on Sunday.
Citizens in Mumbai have to shell out Rs 75.75 for a litre of petrol after a 7 paise increase over Sunday’s rate. A litre of diesel costs Rs 66.99, 6 paise higher than yesterday’s rate of Rs 66.93 per litre.
In Kolkata, petrol price hiked by 7 paise to Rs 72.31, from Rs 72.24 recorded on Sunday. Diesel prices were increased by 6 paise from yesterday’s rate price of Rs 65.82 a litre. In Chennai, petrol is retailing at Rs 72.77, 8 paise increase from Sunday’s rate of Rs 72.69 while diesel price climbed to Rs 67.59, 7 paise more than yesterday’s price of Rs 67.52 a litre, according to data from Indian Oil Corporation website. The pump prices of petrol and diesel in the national capital Delhi are the cheapest among all metros and most state capitals owing to lower taxes.
The fuel price India is dependent on the global crude prices and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate as India imports 80 per cent of its crude requirements. In October 2018, the retail price of petrol price had climbed to Rs 84 a litre in Delhi and it crossed the Rs 91 mark in Mumbai.
In the international oil market, crude price rose on Monday amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States, with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo saying “significant” curbs on Tehran would be announced. International Brent crude oil futures were trading at USD 65.45 per barrel, up 25 cents or, 0.4 per cent, from their last close. Amid rising tensions, Brent crude last week attained a gain of about 5 per cent, its first weekly gain in five weeks.
