For the last one year, we have spoken about how Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra have become the biggest crossover stars from Bollywood today. But can we say the same about their films’ box office fate? No!
Deepika’s xXx 3 released worldwide in January. Now, Priyanka’s Baywatch has hit theatres in the US and will release in India on June 2. Has Baywatch finally managed to break open the box office? Sadly, again a no!
According to rough estimates, the film which enjoyed an extended opening weekend could only collect $22 million. It grossed $18 million in the Friday-Saturday-Sunday, which is disastrous for a film of this magnitude. Featuring Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron along with PC, this R-rated film had quite an amount of nostalgia attached to it but it failed to capitalise on that.
Baywatch doesn’t seem to hold well at the US box office and has turned out to be a major dud. But will it fare better in India? We will know in 3 days!
