“RASHTRIYA POSHAN MAAH” LAUNCHED IN DISTRICT LUDHIANA

  • TARGET TO ELIMINATE ANAEMIA, MALNUTRITION & OTHER HEALTH PROBLEMS AMONGST MOTHERS, CHILDREN & GIRLS

Ludhiana, September 1:

With an aim to eliminate anaemia, malnutrition and other health related problems amongst mothers, children and girls, “Rashtriya Poshan Maah” was launched in district Ludhiana during a function held at Bachat Bhawan, here today. Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while ADC (Jagraon) Mrs Neeru Katyal Gupta was the guest of honour.

While speaking on the occasion, Mr Agrawal stated that the month of September would be celebrated as “Poshan Month” and during this month, people would be made aware about these problems by different mediums in all blocks of district Ludhiana.

While addressing the function, the Deputy Commissioner stated that during the month of September, women would be made aware about how to take care of their newly born children for first 1000 days, save themselves from anaemia, diarrhoea, nutritious food, right way of washing hand, and maintaining clean surroundings etc.

He informed that meetings would be held with mothers, weight of children would be recorded, seminars/workshops regarding nutritious food would be organised, Poshan Mela’s would be organised, cycle rally, poshan walk, gram sabha, healthy recipe competitions, Prabhat pheri’s, hut bazaar, visit to houses, Naari Ki Chaupal, distribution of ORS packets, Jaago, different competitions of students, meetings with panchayats, workshops to make people aware about right way to wash hands etc. 

Mr Agrawal directed the officials to ensure that each house of district Ludhiana is covered. The Social Security, Women and Child Development Department, Skill Development Department, Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Local Government Department, Youth Services Department, Education Department, Agriculture Department, Health and Family Welfare Department, Water Supply and Sanitation Department and Information & Public Relations Department would actively contribute in this campaign.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed all the departments to upload their activities on website, http://poshanabhiyaan.gov.in/ as well. He appreciated Social Security, Women and Child Development Department for this initiative and said that it is need of the hour to eliminate problems such as anaemia and malnutrition from four society. He also said that junk food is damaging the health of the children.

The schedule of activities for “Rashtriya Poshan Maah” was also launched on the occasion. A large number of officials from different government departments attended the function.
