Students showcase cookery skills at PCTE

Ludhiana, March 28, 2017: PCTE Institute of Hotel Management organized Hospitality Olympics 2017, which included various events like Young Master Chef Competition, Bed Making competition, Cocktail and Mocktail making competition, Napkin folding competition,The Globetrotter and etc .

54 teams from 12 institutes namely Chitkara University, Lovely Professional University, Global Institute of Amritsar, Amritsar College of Engineering and Technology, GNA University, Chandigarh University, Chandigarh Group of Colleges Landran, Vidya Jyoti College, Innocent Heart Group of institutes, Rayat Bahra University, Khalsa College Ludhiana and PAU Ludhiana participated. They explored Indian and Chinese cuisines in a unique way.

Judges present were Chef Vikas Grover (executive chef Park plaza, Ludhiana), Celebrity Chef Nellu Kaura, Chef Sudhanshu Rajhans (CEO R2P), Balwinder Jangra, Owner Moti Mahal Ludhiana, Chef Varinder Rana (Treasurer – Five Rivers Association) and Ajay Bhatt (Training Manager Park Plaza Ludhiana).

The events were held in various sections of college. In Young Master Chef competition, 1st position was bagged by Nitika, Kritika and Ritika from Khalsa College Ludhiana followed by Bunny, Manmeet and Prithvi of Lovely Professional University. Third position was achieved by Amanpreet, Mandeep and Kiran from Amritsar College of Engineering and Technology.
In Globetrotter, the first position was secured by Mikki Mra and Seiminthang from Vidya Jyoti Eduversity; second position by Abhilash and Glory from Chandigarh University and third position by Karanpreet and Rajandeep from Amritsar College of Engineering and Technology.

“It is great to see an institution like PCTE to organize competitions like this to enhance the talents of future professionals”, said Celebrity Chef Nellu Kaura.

The mega event was organized to showcase the diverse cuisines of the world and how Chinese and Indian cuisine can be showcased in completely different ways. Huge participation was found from student’s end. “I’m passionate about cooking, and I can’t wait for the day I can change my passion into a career”, said Amrit Lal, student from GNA University.

Anirban Gupta, Dean, PCTE – IHM said “We want to spread awareness about cooking as a promising career; the hotel industry needs more and more participants.” Mr. Gupta praised all the participants and was very happy with the efforts made by the students.

Dr. KNS Kang, Director General PCTE Group of Institutes congratulated the organisers and the participants of the events. He further said that such events will definitely help the students in exploring their creativity. He stressed that hospitality is a growing sector and PCTE encourages such events to implement practical learning on campus.
