The Sarbat Khalsa appointed Takht Jathedars have directed all Granthi and Ragis to boycott last rites of notorious Punjab Police DGP KP Gill who died on May 26 in New Delhi. Notably, the Sarbat Khalsa appointed Takht Jathedars had excommunicated KP Gill from Sikh community in July 2016.

Interacting with media today in Amritsar, Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Bhai Baljit Singh Daduwal said that KP Gill was responsible for mass killing of innocent Sikh youths in fake encounters. “Sikh women were raped and molested in Police stations during his tenure as DGP of Punjab” he said.

Bhai Daduwal further said that KP Gill was asked to appear at Sri Akal Takht Sahib last year however he failed to do so. “So, he was excommunicated from the community and now it is obvious for all the Sikh sevadars to not attend any function to sing his last prayers” he added.

Issuing strict warning to the Sikh sevadars, Bhai Daduwal said that if any Sikh attends last rites of KP Gill then he will be chastised as per Sikh customs.

SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh refused to give any comment about KP Gill. SGPC officials have also not issued any statement on the passing away of KP Gill.
