With the Unnao rape survivor battling for her life in a Lucknow hospital after a truck crashed into her car, opposition leaders in Uttar Pradesh have raised the demand for a CBI investigation into the matter.
The woman had accused Bangermau BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar of raping her at his residence in 2017. Sengar was arrested on rape charges last year.
Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav said that the accident of the rape survivor was a “serious incident” and speculated about a murder conspiracy behind the attack.
In a statement, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh said, “The accident involving the Unnao rape victim in Rae Bareli is a serious incident, and there could be the possibility of murder behind this incident.”
Condemning the Yogi Adityanath government for ushering a “jungle raj” in the state, the SP chief demanded a CBI probe in the accident case.
He said, “This incident has links with a BJP MLA and there is BJP government in the state. There is ‘jungle raaj’ in the state. The criminals are roaming fearlessly. Only a CBI probe will solve this mystery.”
Congress spokesperson Aradhana Mishra also stated that an investigation into matter was necessary as the accident took place under “mysterious circumstances.”
