A Pune consumer court has slapped a Rs 55,000 fine on food delivery aggregator Zomato along with a hotel, for delivering non-vegetarian food instead of a vegetarian dish. The wrong order was delivered to a lawyer.

The court reportedly has directed Zomato to pay the fine within a period of 45 days to city-based lawyer Shanmukh Deshmukh. He was delivered non-vegetarian food not just once but twice.

News agency IANS reported that Deshmukh had ordered paneer butter masala but he was delivered with butter chicken instead. The report further mentioned that since the curries of both the dishes look alike the customer didn’t realise it was a chicken dish and he ate it.

Meanwhile, Zomato told IANS that the lawyer complained against the food delivery aggregator to defame them as they had refunded his amount paid to the app. Meanwhile, the IANS report further mentioned that Zomato told the consumer forum that the error was with the hotel management as they delivered the wrong dish but the consumer forum considered them equally guilty for serving the wrong food.

However, the hotel who prepared and packed the order admitted its mistake in front of the forum. The forum has directed Zomato and the hotel were to pay Rs 50,000 for the deficiency in service and the remaining amount for mental harassment of the lawyer who consumed non-vegetarian food thinking it as a vegetarian dish.
