The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has proposed to come out with a mobile app that will enable visually impaired individuals to identify currency notes through any non-sonic modes (like vibration). The non-sonic modes are to cater to visually impaired individuals who also have hearing issues.
As per RBI, currently, the intaglio printing-based sensory aids for the visually challenged are only present in currency notes of value INR 100 and above. The proposed mobile application shall have the ability to identify all valid Indian currency notes through a mobile captured picture of the notes.
