Bollywood actot Ali Zafar who is known for his films like Tere Bin Laden, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Dear Zindagi have been accused of sexual harassment.
Yes, according to latest reports, Meesha Shafi, a Pakistani singer-actress, accused him of sexual abuse. Meesha and Ali have worked together on several occasions and have known each other for a long time now. Meesha took to her Twitter handle to share her story as she stated she couldn’t stay mum about it anymore.
Meesha tweeted, “Sharing this because I believe that by speaking out about my own experience of sexual harassment, I will break the culture of silence that permeates through our society. It is not easy to speak out. But it is harder to stay silent. My conscience will not allow it anymore #MeToo.” In a statement released on Twitter, she made a revelation that startled everybody. “I have been subjected, on more than one occasion, to sexual harassment of a physical nature at the hands of a colleague from my industry: Ali Zafar. These incidences did not happen when I was young, or just entering the industry. This happened to me despite the fact that I am an empowered, accomplished woman who is known for speaking her mind! This happened to me as a mother of two children,” she said. Furthermore, she said, “It has been an extremely traumatic experience for me and my family. Ali is someone I have known for many years and someone who I have shared the stage with. I feel betrayed by his behaviour and his attitude and I know that I am not alone.”
However, Ali Zafar denies the allegations and said that silence is not an option and he will take a legal course to counter Shafi’s charges against him.
The actor took to Twitter and wrote, “I categorically deny any and all claims of Ms Shafi. I intend to take this through the courts of law and to address this professionally and seriously, rather than to lodge any allegations here…”
Meesha Shafi was a part of Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, albeit in a small role. She is also frequently seen in Coke Studio Pakistan.
