POSHAN ABHIYAN- POSHAN DIWAS CELEBRATED IN ALL ANGANWARI CENTRES OF LUDHIANA

LUDHIANA, April 14 (CNI): With an aim to eradicate Anemia and undernutrition, the Women and Child Development department on Saturday celebrated Poshan Diwas in all Anganwari centers in 16 blocks of the district under Poshan Abhiyan (National Nutrition Mission).
 
The officials from various departments health, rural development and panchayats, water supply and sanitation department, representatives of Guardians of Governance, village panchayat members, ANMs, supervisors, Anganwari workers, pregnant women, lactating mothers and others took part in the events zealously and made the event a huge success. 
 
In Urban-1 block, the event was organized at Holy Dale Public School’s Aman Nagar. This was inaugurated by Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Sanjay Talwar. Medical Officer Sangeeta, Child Development Program Officer (CDPO) Gurcharan Singh, ANMs, Supervisors, Anganwari workers, and helpers. 
 
MLA Sanjay Talwar appreciated the efforts of the department for the creating the awareness about undernutrition and Anemia among the women. He said at a time when the junk food and unbalanced diet have become a major health concern among the children, the awareness drive by the department over the importance of nutritious diet would bring a change in the society.
 
MLA also administered the oath to all the present staff members in Anganwari center. Talwar said that Abhiyan would help to eliminate the undernutrition and anemia from the society.  
 
District Program Officer (DPO) Rupinder Kaur said that all pregnant women and lactating mothers were sensitized to the intake of nutritious diet daily and its benefits. 
 
She told that Poshan Abhiyan is aimed at achieving improvement in the nutritional status of children from 0-6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers. 
 
She disclosed that Ludhiana is among the four districts of the state where Poshan Abhiyan (National Nutrition Mission) was launched. The other districts are Sri Muktsar Sahib, Faridkot, and Mansa in Punjab.
 
DPO stated in all each Anganwari center ‘Nutritious Baby Shower ceremony’ was observed by gifting nutritious fruits, vegetables, and healthy products to the pregnant women. She claimed that such activities would be carried out regularly in all Anganwadi centers. 
 
“The weight of each child in the age group of 0-6 years was monitored” DPO revealed and added that the health officials gave detailed information to the pregnant women and lactating mothers over the importance of breastfeeding for the newborn.
