UNION GOVT EXTENDS ESI SCHEME IN ALL DISTRICTS OF STATE

  • ESI ACT HAS NOW BEEN IMPLEMENTED IN ALL VILLAGES, TEHSILS & BLOCKS OF DISTRICT LUDHIANA: PK NARULA

Ludhiana, September 3:

Mr PK Narula, Director Incharge, ESIC Sub Regional Office, Ludhiana has informed that with effect from September 1, 2019, the provisions of ESI Act have been extended to all districts of Punjab. In a recent notification issued by Ministry of Labour and Employment, Govt. of India, whole 22 districts of Punjab have now been brought under the coverage of ESIC. 

He stated that with this, ESI Act has now been implemented in whole of Ludhiana district extending from Samrala to Jagraon including all villages, tehsils and Blocks of Ludhiana Districts. Earlier, the ESI scheme was implemented in industrial or commercial clusters located sparsely in the state of Punjab. This has been seen as a second major decision of Central Govt. after reducing the ESI contribution from 6.5% to 4%.

Mr Narula said that the ESI Scheme is a pioneer Social Security Scheme run by ESI Corporation under the Ministry of Labour and Employment providing comprehensive social security benefits like Medical Care and a range of Cash Benefits to employees/workers in times of need such as employment injury, sickness, maternity etc. The ESI Act applies to factories/establishments including Educational and Medical Institutions, Rice shellers, Brick kilns etc. where 10 or more persons are employed. The employees drawing wages up to Rs.21,000/-a month are entitled to Medical Benefit and other cash benefits, under the ESI Act.

He said that in district Ludhiana, the ESI has a strong network of one Sub Regional Office, 5 Branch Offices, 13 state run ESI Dispensaries, one 262 bedded Model Hospital at Bharat Nagar Chowk along with super specialty tie up with renowned Medical institutions which provides various benefits including cash and medical treatment to more than 3.5 Lakh employees working in approximately 15000 Factories/Establishments in Ludhiana.
