The Computer Applications Department of GGNIMT (Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management & Technology), Civil Lines organized a workshop on ‘Railway Reservation using Digital Payments’ for the BCA students here today.
Ms. Japneet Kaur, and Prof. Puneet Jindal, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Applications was the resource person for the day. She initiated the workshop with the importance and brief history of the Indian railways.She then moved on to explain the steps involved in reserving various kinds of train tickets at the website. She demonstrated the creation of login ID on the IRCTC website. She elaborated on the various terminology and jargons used in the railways.
The second part of the workshop dealt with digital payments. Explaining the concept of e-wallets, Ms. Japneet said that E-Wallet is a feature exclusively for customers who have registered and established a ‘My Account Profile’. She elaborated further that E-Wallet allows you to store multiple credit card and bank account numbers in a secure environment, and eliminate the need to enter in account information when making your payment. She informed that once you have registered and created E-Wallet profiles, you can make payments faster and with less typing. The students were taught to load payments into the e-wallets .
The students were also made aware of BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money), a Mobile App developed by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), based on the Unified Payment Interface (UPI). Ms. Japneet explained that the app supports all Indian banks which use that platform and allows the user to instantly transfer money between bank accounts of any two parties. She also pointed out that the app could be used on all mobile devices.
The students were given hands on session, where they tried both e- wallets and BHIM app for reserving and later cancelling a ticket each.
Principal Dr. Harpreet Singh congratulated the department for taking this initiative. Prof. Manjit Singh Chhabra, Director, GGNIMT said that the intent of such in-house workshops is to make the BCA first year students comfortable with the digital world.
