New Delhi: In a major blow to the narcotics trade which has a chokehold on the national capital, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has busted a massive drug haul. Officers familiar with the matter claim that this was the biggest ever narcotics bust to have recorded in Delhi. More details are awaited as this is a developing story.

Preliminary reports suggest that sleuths with the Special Cell seized about 150 kilograms of Afghan heroin. The international market value of the drug in the stated quantity is an estimated ₹600 crores. Five men, including two chemical experts of Afghan origin, were arrested during the bust at a heroin reconstitution and processing unit which is believed to have been feeding the heroin demand in the national capital. Officers also recovered several luxury vehicles from the unit, most of them high-end.

This recent seizure is in alignment with the Delhi Police’s crackdown on the national capital’s flourishing drug trade. Earlier this month, the Delhi Police Crime Branch seized 800 kgs of cannabis worth ₹2.4 crore. The recovered drug was identified as high-quality ‘ganja’. Two people were arrested in this regard and charged with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
