Parminder Singh Managing Director, High Flo Automation International private limited was key note speaker at the moment .He informed Reverse Engineering is defined as the process of evaluating physical properties of an object to determine its structure, size, shape or utility. Using Reverse engineering it is possible to reduce design life-cycle time of product development, tool or mold design and imitate existing Machine part. The workshop was also focused on how to protect software from tampering, and piracy as well as techniques of program analysis that support reversing engineering and program understanding. Gurkirat Singh, Executive Director, GGI informed at the moment that Program protection and reverse engineering are dualisms of good and evil. Beneficial uses of reverse engineering are abound. Malicious software needs to be analysed and understood in order to prevent their spread and to assess their functional footprint, owners of IP at times need to recover lost or unmaintained designs. Conversely, malicious reverse engineering allows illegal copying and subversion and designers can employ obfuscation and tamper-proofing on IP to target various attack vectors. He further added that there is an increasing need for Software Security and Protection due to the growing sensitivity of user data coupled with the ubiquitous nature of computing systems ranging from tiny embedded devices to powerful data centres. Malware analysts and researchers use reverse engineering as a tool to understand the behaviour of the malware sample in order to detect, prevent, or get rid of it.
