Kumon, world’s largest after-school programmehas been helping millions of children excel in Maths and English globally, for more than 60 years now. Since the last decade, its unique methodology has also benefited thousands of students in 19 cities of India& Sri Lanka. Spreading the Kumon method further in Ludhiana, KumonGurdevnagar Centre has been serving parents looking for quality education for their children. The centre organized its Advanced Students Forum (ASF) ceremony on 6th August, 2017, at ICAI Bhawan, Pakhowal Road, to honour its top performing students in a gala ceremony.

Kumon believes in “self-learning” through which children gradually progress beyond their school grade levels. While doing so, they challenge their abilities, moving up levels and hence gradually sharpen their analytical and comprehension skills, to become top performers. Kumon centres across the world organize the ASF ceremony annually to honour such achievers. To be an ASF student, children have to prove their mettle by studying beyond their school grade level, after which they get recognized in the Advanced Students Honour Roll (ASHR) and then awarded in the ASF. They are recognized on the  basis of the following levels:

  1. 6 months ahead of School grade level – Bronze Medal + Certificates
  2. 2 Years ahead of School grade Level – Silver Medal+ Certificates
  3. 3 Years ahead of School grade Level – Gold Trophy + Certificates
  4. 5 Years ahead of School grade Level – Special Certificates

This year, Kumon Gurdevnagar Centre honoured 96 ASHR students. Out of them 7 were awarded the Gold trophy, 24 received the Silver medal, while 64 other bright students were awarded Bronze medals.

Commenting on the achievers, Ms. Suvra Nanda, Class Instructor, Kumon Gurdev Nagar Centre says, “The Kumon learning module helps students become more tactful & self-indulging while solving problems that are challenging and demand analytical skills. In Kumon it’s not uncommon to witness miracles, where students in Class 1 could be solving problems of division or fraction corresponding to Class 4math or students in Class 5enjoyingsolving calculus (Class 12 maths) themselves. I feel privileged to be a part of theKumon family and look forward to more parents and children across Ludhiana and other parts of Punjab benefit from the Kumon way of learning.”

Says, Mrs. Deepa Jindal, mother of one of the ‘Completer’ Satvik Jindal, “My 8 year old son Satvik joined Kumon Maths a year ago and he enjoyed it so much that few months later he joined Kumon English too. The sheets are well designed to encourage students for self-study. His instructors and the entire Kumon team played a very important role in developing and maintaining his zest to complete the programme and as a result today he is a Kumon Maths Completor and Kumon English Gold medalist. I am proud of Satvik and also very happy for him as he has done such advanced studies at such a young age and in future he can avail much better opportunities. We love Kumon!”

Apart from the award ceremony, the event also witnessed spirited performances by children who put up a short musical ensemble playing piano, guitar, keyboard and drums, guided by Mr. Albert John, Founder, Arpeggios Music Factory. The event was sponsored by Avon Cycles and The Purple Present witnessed a packed house with more than 300 enthusiastic attendees.
