Ludhiana News||100 VILLAGES WILL BE DECLARED DRUG FREE IN NEXT 15 DAYS

Ludhiana, June 25 (000)-Ludhiana Police Commissioner Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill informed that Ludhiana Police Commissionerate has prepared a meticulous Action Plan In the ongoing war against drugs in Punjab. The action plan is aimed at enforcement on the one hand and prevention as well as education on the other. Out of the 28 Police Stations in the Commissionerate, eight Police Stations with areas vulnerable to drugs have been identified. These Police stations and the concerned areas will be given special attention under this strategy. In addition to the sub-divisional DSP and SP rank officers, additional gazetted officers have been assigned specific area based responsibility to fight the menace of drugs. The teams will work on technical as well as human intelligence in collaboration with the local stakeholders in these areas. The teams will work on two fronts – nabbing the drug peddlers and breaking the whole supply chain of drugs and involving the community and youth on a large scale. 7 villages and 6 localities have been declared drug free and 100 villages out of total 290 will be declared drug free in next 15 days and Ludhiana Police Commissionerate endeavours are to declare 100% village’s drug free.

He also made it clear that action will be taken against those police officials found to be in collusion with drug peddlers.

Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill said here, today that the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate has achieved great success in its drive against drug and drug peddlers this year, resulting in the arrest of 248 drug peddlers in 178 cases and seizure of approximately 9 kg opium, two quintals of poppy husk. 300 gram of charas, 74 kilogram Ganja, 9.5 kg heroin, 368-gram narcotic powder, 26568 intoxicating tablets and few bottles of syrups. Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill said that the officers are regularly in touch with the IOs of these cases and are working on unearthing the whole network of drug peddlers. Weekly crime meetings are held with a specific focus on proper investigation of NDPS cases. The officers and police station level staff are regularly updated on latest case laws. Judgement and procedures to be adopted in the investigation of NDPS related cases to ensure higher conviction rates addition to the focus on enforcement. The Ludhiana police commissionerate simultaneously working on engaging the citizens, especially youth with the help of initiatives like nukkad nataks, seminars, distribution of posters/pamphlets literature  related to various initiatives of the government, special drives for rehabilitation of drug addicts Dr Gill said families of drug users are being encouraged to come out in open and to ensure timely intervention and rehabilitation of their wards. To ensure wider coverage and greater public involvement, the police commissionerate is also going to rope in NGOs, Civil Authorities, SAANJH committee members, DAPOs and Guardians Of Governance and respectables from all spheres of the society.
