Sagar: It’s not a usual affair for cops to take care of pet animals after they arrest their owners for any crime. But there is all together a different story from a town in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh. Apart from regular policing, the police officers at the local Choti Bajaria police station in Bina town are performing a different duty of taking care of a dog, whose owner was arrested for murder.

Sultan, a dog of Labrador breed, nowadays spending his days at the police station enjoying the hospitality of the cops. Sultan has become a good friend of the police officers who give him company and take care of his daily needs.

According to a report in NDTV online, Sultan’s owner Manohar Ahirwar was arrested for murdering five members of his relative’s family over a property dispute. Ahirwar’s two sons were also arrested in the case. After the arrest of the family, he was found abandoned at the home without food and water.

The animal was hungry and angry as well and wanted to attack police personnel. But the cops managed to calm him down and brought the pet to the police station, where he was fed properly.

Now, police officers say Sultan has become like a family to them. Cops also pamper the pet with home-cooked food as the police station has become his adopted home.

The cops say that when they asked the family of the accused and the neighbours to take care of Sultan, they expressed their unwillingness and refused. According to the police, there was no option left for them, but to bring the pet to the police station.

Sultan now gets a bath and home-cooked food from cops. They also take him out for a daily walk and take turns to take care of him.

Station House Officer (SHO) Manisha Tiwari says the officers have become very much attached to the dog. The police officers say they only handover Sultan to a family who is fit to take care of him.
