Breaking his silence over the government’s move to revoke Article 370, Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said the nation is made of people and not plots of land. His reaction comes a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced abrogation of Article 370 in the Parliament.
“National integration isn’t furthered by unilaterally tearing apart J&K, imprisoning elected representatives and violating our Constitution. This nation is made by its people, not plots of land,” Gandhi said in his tweet.

This abuse of executive power has grave implications for our national security.

Article 370 granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir and allowed it to have its own flag and constitution, among other rights.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved a resolution in Rajya Sabha to abolish Article 370 of the Constitution, which accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir, after the president issued a notification, and introduced a bill to divide the state into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
The Rajya Sabha approved both the resolution and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019. Both will now come up in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
