SEWING MACHINE CLUSTER AT LUDHIANA APPROVED BY UNION MINISTRY OF MSME

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium  Enterprises, Government of India has approved Sewing Machine Cluster at Ludhiana. In order to make the MSME Sector competitive on International front, Govt. of India has launched MSE-CDP Scheme in which a project for establishing common facility centre amounting upto Rs. 15 Crore is considered and a grant ranging from 70% to 90% is given by forming the SPV amongst the cluster members.

This scheme is being implemented at District Level by the office of General Manager, District Industries Centre, Ludhiana. Many awareness workshops have been held in the past those have started yielding the results.

Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal informed that in District Ludhiana, the DIC has identified eleven clusters of various industrial sectors which are at different stages of implementation. During the last two years four clusters have been approved by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium  Enterprises, Government of India out of which two clusters have got final approval and in one case first instalment amounting to Rs. 5.40 Crores has been released by GOI to the Oil Expeller Cluster and in another case of Garment manufacturing cluster the release of grant is expected very soon. Similarly the Auto Parts cluster has been given in principal approval by GOI.  

General Manager, District Industries Centre, Ludhiana Mr Mahesh Khanna has informed that in 51st meeting of Steering Committee of MSE CDP of  Government of India held under the Chairmanship of Mr Arun Kumar Panda, IAS, Secretary MSME, Government of India on September 12, 2019, at New Delhi, the ministry has approved Sewing Machine Development Cluster at Ludhiana.

The Sewing Machine Cluster was identified by the Department of Industries and Commerce, Punjab under MSE-CDP Scheme of Government of India and the same was presented before the Steering Committee for due approval by Director of Industries and Commerce Mr Sibbon C., IAS along with Mr S.M. Goel, Industrial Advisor. President of the SPV of the Cluster Mr Jagbir Singh Sokhi, Mr SS Bedi advisor presented the details and requirements of setting Common facility centre for sewing machine. Sh. Kulwant Singh General Secretary, consultant CA Tejinder Singh and Sukhbir Singh Sokhi were also present in the meeting. With this cluster, the Sewing machine Industry will be able to develop new models and come up with international standards of Sewing Machines. 

Applauding the achievement of the District, Deputy Commissioner Sh. Pardeep Kumar Aggarwal, IAS expected that many more clusters of other industrial sectors will feel motivated and will come forward by forming their respective SPVs and will be in a position to improve their quality, production and exports.
