SCD Government College, Ludhiana commemorated World Environment Day on 5th June 2018 in association with JeevJantuPariyavaranSambhalSevaSamiti (Regd). On this occasion around fifty saplings were planted in the campus. While interacting with the samiti members, the principal Dr. Dharam Singh Sandhu said that restoring the green cover is the easiest and cheapest way to sail through the current crisis of environment degradation and rising pollution levels. While there is little that we can do to eliminate emission of poisonous fumes from vehicles and factories due to requirements of modern everyday life, however we can do our part in ensuring that the lungs of our eco system remain healthy by planting more and more trees and by caring for them with religious regularity. The Samiti President Sh. SubhashSondhi also echoed serious concern about the increasing toxic contents in the air that we are breathing which is giving rise to grave respiratory diseases and allergies in young and old alike.

Those present on the occasion included faculty members of the college – Dr. Harbans Singh, Prof. Kamal Kishore and Prof. P S Grewal. All were of the opinion that this initiate will go a long way provided it is emulated by society at large.
